New York, November 2, 2012 Elaine Walsh is trapped in lower Manhattan due to Hurricane Sandy. Whilst loading water onto trucks headed for the Rockaways, an email came from Tourism Ireland seeking ideas for ‘The Gathering’. She already knew the tagline ‘A poem about Ireland, by the People of Ireland, wherever they are’

The Abbey Theatre, Dublin, September 2, 2013  The Gathering Poem website is officially launched in the Abbey Theatre – itself founded by poet William Butler Yeats. The date turned out to be a most significant one, at the same time Seamus Heaney’s funeral cortège arrived at Bellaghy, his final resting place.

Áras an Uachtaráin, Dublin, December 18, 2013 The Gathering Poem is presented to the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins in his formal residence. The President accepted the poem on behalf of on behalf of the 70 million Irish worldwide.

On Raglan Road Dublin, September 25, 2014 The Gathering Poem book is officially launched by Irish Minister for Diaspora Affairs, Mr Jimmy Deenihan and presented to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.




The editors decision is final, they may pick between 1 to 4 lines from any submission. When lines are chosen, these lines along with the contributors biogs and pictures, will be sent to the book designers in Dublin, who are on standby to slot these in immediately.
